Operate with maximum protection and minimum risk.
The enclosed COVID mask was printed from files obtained from Copper3d. Each mask is printed to fit the user. Revisions to the mask design will be ongoing to improve fit, function, and comfort.
This Mask: The enclosed mask is a prototype and has not yet been tested to adequately filter airborne viruses between 0.3 µ and 3 µ (e.g., Coronavirus).
This mask will fit your face 13 cm measured from the tip of the chin to the ocular plane.
The rim is covered with moleskin for comfort and a soft latex rim will be available Friday.
You need to clean the mask as described below. It was cleaned prior to packing but I could be infected and not know it, though not likely. Wash your hands first.
Your Action: A filter needs to be inserted into the inside base of the mask (provided separately). The filter holder is initially a tight fit but can be loosened by hand. You need to adjust the strap.
Filter Material: Filter material can be obtained from
Filter Replacement: The filter should be replaced within 8 hours after 8 hours or less of use. After touching the filter during replacement, wash your hands.
Scaling to Face: The mask template is designed to fit a 12 cm height face. The face height is determined by measuring from the tip of the chin to the ocular plane, a horizontal line that passes just between the eyes and a distance between cheekbones measured straight above the nose (average 12 cm). The scale factor is determined by measuring this distance on your face and dividing by 12.
Purpose: This mask is designed to protect the user from other people and other people from the user:
Prevent the spread of liquid aerosols that could contaminate the airways.
Protect the user from airborne virus greater than 1 micron.
The mask is not personal protection equipment (like a N95 mask) as defined by CDC, NIH, WHO, and other health organizations.
It is well suited for pilots and passengers to protect each other against the transmission of airborne viruses when the Procedures for Conducting Flight Operations are followed.
Cleaning:
Wash with soap and clean water.
Rinse with clean water.
Disinfect with ethyl alcohol (70%). Isopropyl alcohol (70%) is also suitable.
Rinse with sterile water.
Enhancements: The mask is being revised to improve fit, function, and comfort:
A soft latex rim cover is soon and to improve comfort and seal.
A HEPA filter is available to meet or exceed the protection requirements.
